How To Pack For Holiday Efficiently

If you're anything like me and my family, we leave packing for holiday to the last minute and end up getting all stressed and flustered over it the night before. Despite the fact we do our packing last minute, we have packing down to a science and have a handy dandy way of packing to maximise our space. If you're going on holiday this summer, or even in the year, I have devise a list of tips on how to pack efficiently without having to sit on your case by the end of it. I hope you like my tips and that they help you out!

1. Make a list and put all your items out needed to be packed.
If you have a checklist, you can check them off as you pack them so you know you haven't forgotten anything. Having all your items out will mean that you can visualise what needs to go in first and in what order so that you aren't running around trying to find something last minute or having to slot something in or worse having to take everything out to make it fit.
2. Line your shoes around the outside of the case.
This will create a secure barrier around the case and allow you to fill the majority of the flat part of the suitcase with clothes. The majority of cases are curved and so placing some flip flops or shoes around the edges will mean you use all the space available.
3. Place your underwear and bikinis in the small spaces between the shoes.
If you put the underwear in the middle, you'll be left with spaces that you can't fill with other items. Because underwear and bikinis are small, flimsy and don't take up much room, place them in the small nooks and crannies you have from the shoes you have placed in as well as the spaces from products etc.

4. Roll, don't fold.
One of the greatest packing myths is that you should fold all your clothes but this does not help save on room when you are packing. Instead, roll your clothes and lay them as close to each other as you can. This will help you to save some of the room and not make that suitcase too bulky. It also helps to keep your clothes flat and less creased without those awkward folded lines through your clothes. Not only does it save room but it saves time when you get to your destination by not having to iron your clothes again.
5. Layer before you roll your clothes.
When you're rolling your clothes, don't just roll them separately; take a few items of clothing of the same sort and roll them together. For example, take 2 or 3 lightweight tops, lay them on top of each other the same way and roll them altogether. This means you have less rolled clothing to fit in and ultimately more space.
6. Use smaller plastic bottles.
If you don't need a huge bottle of product, try buying smaller travel size bottles that you can empty the contents into so that you have less to pack. This only really works if you aren't going for a long time or if the product won't be used that much. For sun tan cream, I wouldn't recommend putting them in smaller bottles as you'll need a lot of it.
7. Place products in the small pocket on the lid of the suitcase.
To save space in the actual suitcase depth, try putting your products and a number of other items in the pocket that is usually located on the inside of the suitcase on the lid of it. It will free up some space and keep them in an orderly fashion. Also, put these in another bag (wash bag) so that if they do leak, the mess will be contained to the bag, not the whole suitcase.

8. Put fragile items in the centre of your suitcase surrounded by clothing.
If you place your fragile objects in the middle, the cushioning from the clothing will give you a little bit of protection in case something were to happen. Baggage handlers at airports are notorious for throwing cases on and off the planes for speed and so if you keep your fragile items surrounded by layers of clothing, there is less chance that you'll get to your destination and find your item broken.

Whatever you do, don't go mad and overpack because it'll only mean that you struggle to fit everything in, you have to carry it or pull it when it's heavy and you'll be annoyed with yourself for taking pointless items of clothing. Think about what you will wear and what you will need not what you might need.

Love you,
Nicole
