Yesterday, I went on another movie date with my best friend, Gerri and this time we went to see the new film The Heat. It was directed by the people who created Bridesmaids and starred Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. I love Sandra Bullock, she is one of my favourite actresses because she's so good at it. She's great at these types of films as if she fit the role of a cop perfectly. Overall, I think this film was great. It was greatly heartwarming as well as funny, with hilarious parts in between.
The best part of the film is definitely the on-screen chemistry that grew and blossomed between the two main characters. It was as if they were made for the part and they filled the roles perfectly. You start with an uptight, workaholic FBI agent and pair it with a small-time, less than by-the-book police officer and you get a dream team. It says a lot about life in the fact that you can learn a lot about the world in the places that you least expect it. It also says to not judge a book by its cover because it's not always correct. The pretty cover isn't always the best read.
Another thing that I took away from the film was that you don't necessarily need to be the best to be the happiest. It's a great film with undertones of serious meanings that is covered by a layer of comedy and stupidness. It was a great laugh and by the end I was glad that I went to see it.
It only just confirmed that I love Sandra Bullock and happily pay to see any of her works. She puts all her mind into fully committing to a character to pull the words of a brief into a reality. She's a wonderful actress and deserves all the success she has got.
Melissa McCarthy is one of those actresses that you can't help but love. She's naturally hilarious and it's so warming to see someone in Hollywood that isn't the stick-thin, Barbie doll replica like everyone else. She comes into the film as a refreshing breath of air and I would go as far to say that she contributes 80% of making the film so funny.
The film left me wanting to be an FBI agent solving all the cases and using guns whilst beating people up. Can you picture it? Nah, me either!
If you're looking for a light-hearted, funny film this summer; definitely check out The Heat because although it is a little predictable, it certainly gives you some surprising twists and turns that you don't see coming as well as some deepful thinking to take away with you.
